CELL: is an intersection of a row and a column. It can contain various types of data, for example, number or characters. A cell is referenced by the name of the column and row. For example, the first cell A1 is in column A and row 1.
WORKSHEETS: are sheets that contain rows and columns of cells in which users can enter data in Excel.
WORKBOOKS: Contain a number of worksheets.
Workspace: Contains related workbooks.
Rows and Columns: a single cell in Excel can contain 65,536 rows and 256 columns. A single cell in Excel can contain 32,767 Characters.
Charts: enable you to graphically represent data in a worksheet. You can also create user-defined charts.
Formula Autocorrect: automatically corrects incorrect formulas in Excel. This feature of excel corrects 15 most common formula entry mistakes automatically. Excel also prompts to correct mistakes by displaying a dialog box and suggesting corrections.
Many Basic feature of MS Office applications are present in Excel. For example,
Menu bar and Toolbars
Shortcut menus
Pop-up and drop down menus
Cut, copy and paste, drag and drop features.
Range Finder: uses coloured co-ordinated frames to indicate the cells that are referenced in a given formula if the cell in which the result of the formula is displayed is clicked. You can drag the frames and adjust the references of the formula.
Natural language formulas: enable you to use user-defined names of columns in formulas.
Auto correct and spell check: automatically corrects common typing, spelling and grammatical errors. It also lets you perform a spell check on the worksheet.

Menu Bar in MS Word
Shown below is the Microsoft Word default window. When Word is launched, a new blank document, or default window, opens in Print Layout view. Although window elements are fully explained in our Windows class, here is a brief explanation of the Word window.
Title bar
Displays the document name followed by a program name
Menu bar
Contains a list of options to manage and customize documents
Standard toolbar
Contains shortcut buttons for the most popular demands
Formatting toolbar
Contains buttons used for formatting text
Ruler
Used to set margins, indents, and tabs
Insertion Point
The location where the next character appears
End-of-document marker
Indicates the end of the document

Adding Borders to the Document:
1, When we want to create a decorative document with borders and shading, we have an option called ‘Borders and Shading’ under format menu.
2,When we make a click on it , we will get the borders and chading dialogue box.
3, By selecting the required line style, we can insert a border in our document.
Inserting WordArt in a document:
1, Word Art is a special feature used to print the text with some style.
2, To insert word art we have to make a click on the word art option under Insert Menu.
Insert..........>Picture........>Word Art
3, A word art Gallery dialogue box will appear showing different styles of word art.
4, The required style can be selected from this box.
5, After we type the required text, click on OK button.
6 The typed text will appear in the selected style.
Using Spell Check feature:
1, ‘Spell check’ is a special feature, which simultaneously assists the user in finding the spelling mistakes.
2, You could have noticed the red colour squiggled lines displaying during the course of your typing work in the computer.
3, That is nothing but the spell check feature of MS_Word.

Printing the document in word
1,Any work that is done in the computer can be taken out as a printed format. This can be achieved by selecting the following command.
a. file Print (or)
b. Press print iconicon
2, ‘Print’ dialogue box will appear on the screen.
3, We can select printer and click on ‘OK’ button.

Open New document in word
Step 1 Opening a document is similar to that of the saving operation.
Step 2 Just as we select the folder for saving, we should select the same folder to open a file also.
Step 3 We can open our document, from MS-Word in 3 different ways,
1. Through Menu : File.........>Open
2. Through Icon : Click on Open icon
3. Through Shortcutkey : Ctrl + O
Step 4 The dialogue box appears similar to that of the ‘Save As’ box.
Step5 5But the title and command button will be having the caption as ’Open’.
